Abstrak

Tiga tahun setelah kasus pandemi Covid-19 merebak di tahun 2019, strategi masyarakat dunia saat ini beralih dari pertahanan jangka pendek ke adaptasi jangka panjang. Salah satu proses adaptasi pada masyarakat risiko (risk society) dapat berupa penguatan mekanisme intervensi positif untuk meminimalkan risiko. Beberapa kelompok menemukan rasa aman dalam protokol kesehatan ketat dan gaya hidup sehat, kelompok lainnya memilih untuk menyertakan puisi dalam proses ini. Artikel ini menantang asumsi umum tentang minimnya peran Sastra dalam penanganan pandemi melalui investigasi peran apresiasi puisi Islami bertema wabah sebagai strategi pembentukan masyarakat yang tangguh pandemi melalui ketahanan budaya. Dalam artikel ini, ketahanan budaya didefinisikan sebagai cara-cara unik yang dipandang dapat memfasilitasi individu atau komunitas terdampak untuk mengatasi kesulitan yang mengancam melalui peran budaya seperti norma kebiasaan, seni bahasa, maupun adat istiadat (Clauss-Ehler, 2004). Metode yang digunakan adalah reader’s response terhadap tiga puisi Islam bertemakan wabah yakni The Cholera (1974) karya Al-Malaika, The Black Death (1348) karya Ibn al-Wardi, dan The Night Visitor (c.960) karya Al-Mutannabi. Responden pembaca yang dilibatkan adalah 21 mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Puisi di Universitas Islam Sultan Agung, Indonesia yang terdampak pandemi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa membaca puisi hanya mempengaruhi mahasiswa yang berminat pada seni membaca estetis (aesthetic reading). Selanjutnya, ketika dihadirkan sebagai bentuk intervensi positif selama masa pandemi, menikmati membaca puisi dapat berperan sebagai faktor pelindung bagi responden pembaca melalui tiga mekanisme: pengingat konsep qadar atau ketetapan, terciptanya pemaknaan pandemi sebagai pengalaman bersama, dan mewujudnya empati dari pemaknaan pengalaman bersama tersebut.
